Our SnakeSense Dream

Australian Scrub Python Morelia kinghorni
SnakeSense aims to build an idyllic zoological park focused solely upon snakes. Extensively landscaped, professionally run and generally beautiful to behold … we wish to create a truly special place where these fascinating animals can be observed living an all but luxurious existence in large, natural exhibits where visitors can experience the wonders of the habitats as well as the inhabitants.
Every year, many exotic and Australian snakes die as a result of the cruel smuggling trade. Due to a lack of information about their origins and the risk of spreading disease, snakes confiscated from smugglers cannot be returned the wild, and are euthanased, as required by law.
We understand the reasons behind this practice, but that doesn’t stop us wanting to change it. To see beautiful, healthy, innocent animals die as a result of criminal behaviour is both heart-wrenching and infuriating.
This is where the SnakeSense Snake Sanctuary comes in.
Supposing we can raise sufficient funds to construct the facility, we aim to populate it solely with snakes confiscated by the government from illegal sources. These animals would be gently habituated to human contact and become ambassadors for their species, demonstrating to people from all walks of life that snakes can be lovable, if we just give them the chance.
This facility would allow us to expand our educational services dramatically and in so doing, make a genuine difference to snake conservation. Needless to say, it would also offer a unique and fascinating tourism attraction to our local region: something which would be particularly valuable, both economically and otherwise, in light of the lasting impacts of the Black Saturday bushfires.
We’re fully aware that this dream is a big one, but believe one achieves nothing without trying. Hence, we are actively seeking Sponsors to contribute towards this goal, in addition to supporting our current and ongoing snake conservation and education work.
If you’re curious about becoming a Sponsor, don’t hesitate to contact us … or if you’d just like to donate a few dollars, click here. No amount is too small – every dollar can make a difference.

Unlike most other snakes, some pythons coil around their eggs to incubate them.
