Meet our Mascot!

Fluffy, our new mascot!
Here she is… our long awaited, brand new SnakeSense Mascot! Attention everyone… meet Fluffy!
Fluffy is a five month old female Water Python (Liasis mackloti), bred by our friends at Black Snake Productions from two of their favourite public demonstration animals. Having worked with these two sweet-hearted snakes in public on several occasions, Georgina knew their baby girl would be the perfect ambassador for SnakeSense.
The largest of her litter, Fluffy was chosen for her curious, friendly temperament and outstanding good health! Having lived at SnakeSense for just over a month, she is now nearly two feet (60cm) long and growing fast. Already an absolute darling to handle, she should be ready for her first “meet and greet” outings this coming Spring, helping SnakeSense prove to the world that when it comes to serpents, fact is far cuddlier than fiction!

Fluffy, our Water Python
Water Pythons are found right across Northern Australia, usually in and around freshwater lakes, swamps, rivers and creeks. Whilst they are Australia’s most aquatic python, they are not completely so, and also inhabit woodlands and open forests. They are just as comfortable hunting up a tree as they are in the water, and prey upon rats, bandicoots, flying foxes, Magpie Goose eggs, baby crocodiles and other reptiles. At this point, however, little Fluffy is quite happy with a diet of young mice! She will graduate to rats when she’s older (and larger!)
Primarily nocturnal, they shelter in burrows, hollow logs, soil crack or amongst dense vegetation during the day.

Adults reach three metres in length, and are robustly built. Generally olive green with cream to yellow bellies, these beautiful snakes come to life in direct sunlight, when their iridescent scales display a spectacular rainbow sheen. It is believed this species gave rise to the wondrous Aboriginal legend of the Rainbow Serpent.
Keep an eye out for updates on Fluffy’s progress … we hope to post some videos of her as she grows!
